MRA Testing

AMRT is part of the Appalachian Region of the Mountain Rescue Association (MRA). Our region covers from southern TN to VT and consists of 5 regular teams and numerous several Associate and ExOfficio teams. To become a Regular Team, the team must apply, meet various requirements and be voted into the MRA.. This starts the process. To achieve full Regular team status, a team must then pass three field tests that prove their proficiency in wilderness search and rescue activities. These tests are Wilderness Search, Tech Rock and Snow and Ice. These tests demonstrate that the team can respond to four season austere Search and Rescue.

AMRT had the privilege of hosting Linville Central Rescue Squad for North Carolina in their testing in Wilderness Search and Tech Rock this past weekend. The testing was held in the Obed Wild and Scenic River which boasts some of the best climbing and bouldering in the Southeast. Linville Central brought 12 members over to prove their mettle and passed all tests with flying colors. They will be presented to the MRA Board this winter for approval as the next Regular Team in the MRA.. We are proud of their accomplishments and look forward to working with them even more in the South East..
